In this paper, on the example of closely related Turkic languages of southern Siberia, it is shown how the phonetics of a particular language can act as an ethnic identity. Such studies have not previously been conducted on the language material of the Shor, Teleut, Kumandin and Khakass languages. The study presents lexemes with markers of identity in the field of phonetics. On the example of the Shor language, it was found that the ethnic identity of the people can be both phonetic patterns and individual sounds. With different related peoples they may be different, there may be several.
