The ethnographical team of Museum of History and Culture of Peoples of Siberia and Russian Far East of IAET of SB RAS, working in the polar region, for more than thirty years has been monitoring the current state of sacred places in locations of compact habitat of local population in Siberia — Khanty and Mansy, and has been studying spiritual culture of Ob-Ugrians. One of the results of this work is the formation of the ethnographical collection of the Museum of SB RAS. A special place is occupied by cult objects, which reflect traditional mythological consciousness. The article contains the description of figures of guardian spirits (a bear and a frog), indicative of a stable tradition of worshiping clan totems. These features of religious culture present a clear marker of ethnic identity of modern Ob-Ugrians.
