The laboratory “PaleoData” was established in 2019 as part of the implementation of the national project “Science”. It is located in the heart of Novosibirsk Akademgorodok, in a unique place – the Center for Collective Use “Cenozoic Geochronology”, where colleagues from three scientific institutes (IAET SB RAS, INP SB RAS and IGM SB RAS) have been working for the benefit of archaeology for more than 20 years. A team of highly qualified specialists, availability of modern laboratories and access to unique collections of archaeological sites from Siberia and the Far East allowed to open the laboratory “PaleoData” and pass on to young researchers the experience of national science in the best traditions of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The main objective of the laboratory is the application of scientific methods to the study of archaeological and natural sites in Eurasia, providing chronologies and reconstructions of environmental conditions during the Quaternary period.

The head of the laboratory has a wide scientific background. Her research interests are in the fields of Quaternary paleoecology and paleogeography in North Asia. She is proficient in palynological method and has considerable experience in interpreting complex data in interdisciplinary studies of past climatic and environmental conditions. Natalia is also a specialist in the study of vegetation cover in southern Siberia and neighboring parts of Central Asia. One of her research priorities is the reconstruction of Holocene vegetation diversity in the Altai region and surrounding areas.
In addition to her scientific experience, Natalia has also gained considerable experience in the field of education. She has supervised the defenses of six master’s theses, five bachelor’s theses, and one Ph.D. thesis.
It can be said that working under the guidance of such a supervisor is a significant advantage for young people pursuing scientific careers.

The laboratory is currently engaged in the active development of three research areas: dating methods, paleoenvironmental analysis, and paleodiet reconstruction.
1. Dating Methods: The construction of relative and absolute chronologies for different chronosections of the Quaternary of Eurasia.
1) Dendrochronological method;
2) Wiggle-watching;
3) Anthracological analysis.
2. Paleoecological analysis (reconstruction of Quaternary climate):
1) Paleoclimatic reconstructions of high temporal resolution from palaeoecological and dendrochronological data;
2) Determination of tree species (xylotomical analysis);
3) Palynological analysis;
4) Analyses of microcharcoals, phytoliths;
5) Analyses of cladocera and ostracods;
6) Analysis of ancient sedimentary DNA.
3.Paleodiet reconstruction (reconstruction of Quaternary plant and animal life).
1) Starch analysis;
2) Analysis of ancient DNA from vessel contents.
The collaboration of experts enables a multidisciplinary approach, whereby research on past ecological environments, fuel and diet selection strategies, and the calibration of these processes within an appropriate chronology can be integrated.
